Automation Engineer

SAG Netherlands is a producer and supplier of aluminium products from thin sheet metal, located in Katwijk (ZH). SAG Netherlands specializes in manufacturing aluminium fuel tanks and related products for the automotive industry. Through our business unit, Aluminized, we focus on delivering customized aluminium products with an emphasis on sustainable mobility. We operate with approximately 220 employees at our locations in Katwijk and Rijnsburg.

As an Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for improving the efficiency, quality, and reliability of production processes. You will report to the Department Lead Continuous Improvement, and the position is available for 32 to 40 hours per week.

What will you do?

1. Analyze existing production processes to identify opportunities for automation.
2. Design automated systems and processes based on needs and technical specifications.
3. Program PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), SCADA systems (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and other control equipment. Configure industrial networks and communication protocols.
4. Lead the implementation of automated systems in collaboration with technicians and operators. Test and validate the functionality of implemented systems.
5. Perform regular maintenance on automated systems to ensure optimal performance. Identify and troubleshoot faults and technical issues in automation equipment.
6. Train technicians and operators on the use and maintenance of automated systems. Provide technical support to production staff for questions or problems.
7. Manage automation projects, including planning, budgeting, and coordination of resources. Collaborate with other departments to ensure automation projects meet business objectives.
8. Document technical specifications, designs, and changes to automation systems.
9. Create and update manuals and procedures for the use and maintenance of automated systems.
10. Evaluate existing automation systems and identify opportunities for improvement. Research new technologies and innovations to enhance efficiency and performance.
11. Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations when designing and implementing automation systems. Guarantee that automated processes meet quality standards and regulations.

Who are you?

1. Possess a Bachelor's degree (in a technical field).
2. Minimum of three years of relevant work experience.
3. Knowledge of LEAN Six Sigma at least at Green Belt level.
4. Passion for innovation and organization with a results-oriented mindset.
5. Analytical strength and a true team player.
6. Strong communication skills, able to provide technical advice.
7. Proficient in both Dutch and English.
