Description

Ground Control Segment (GCS) System Engineer in the Galileo Ground Control Segment Management Service, Galileo Ground Segment Management Office, EGNOS and Galileo Programme Department, Directorate of Navigation.

The GCS System Engineer oversees and coordinates the design work and reviews of the Galileo Ground Control Segment, ensuring its correct implementation in the overall Galileo System and reports to the Head of the Galileo Ground Control Segment Management Service.

The Ground Control Segment is procured as part of industrial contracts. This constitutes the core operational infrastructure for the monitoring and control of Galileo operational satellites, as well as the Launch and Early Operational Phases for new satellites. It is deployed on dedicated sites worldwide.

Duties

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:


• following up design activities at segment level (architecture, performance, segment, components, site security accreditation) paying special attention to the impact on and compliance with System requirements and System interfaces;
• monitoring of element-level design decisions ensuring that any impact on Segment-level design is identified and addressed in a timely manner;
• supporting the unclassified and classified GCS technical baseline evolutions (applicable requirements/standards) for the Galileo Ground Control Segment, focusing on the review and evaluation of the flow-down of the system baseline;
• supporting the procurement and upgrade of the Galileo GCS Infrastructure and the Ground Segment procurement activities for G2;
• managing the obsolescence plan and resolution;
• providing technical input to the GCS-related procurement process, including ITT data-pack production, internal reviews and proposal evaluations;
• supporting other segments (space, operations, GMS) for the provision of expertise related to GCS interfaces and functionality;
• maintaining efficient interfaces with other project disciplines, in particular System Engineering, Security and Operations

Technical competencies

Knowledge of and/or experience in ground segment design, definition and implementation, especially in the Ground Control Segment

Knowledge of space systems procurement, development and verification processes and standards

Knowledge of security requirements and accreditation needs for space systems

Experience in software development projects with new GSEG technologies and frameworks (e.g. SAFe)

Experience in managing technical interfaces between the subsystems part of complex high-level system implementation

Experience in multi-agency/consortia cooperative programmes

Education

A master's degree in software engineering or aeronautical engineering is required for this post.

Additional requirements


You should have substantial experience in project phases C/D/E and a good background in ground system design, development, deployment and testing.
System engineering experience in a relevant context and sound knowledge of automation and virtualisation technologies is an asset
You are expected to be knowledgeable about new GSEG technologies and state-of-the-art methodology (e.g. SAFe, Agile, CI/CD, DEVOPS).
Knowledge of computer systems, programming languages and engineering standards.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
